Grüß Gott aus Bayern!

Having lived in Munich, Bavaria since 2012, I’ve seen a lot of this wonderful city and also a great deal of the rest of this picturesque state of Bavaria. Wherever I go within Bavaria, I’m awe-struck by the beauty of the landscape, the friendliness of the people and the keeping up of centuries-old traditions. And I always say to myself: “I really want to share this moment or this view with others; it’s too beautiful not to”. This blog is my way of doing this. I really want others to see the beauty of Bavaria and get some great tips as to things to do and places to go, eat, drink and, at the end of a no doubt fun-packed day, sleep. I will thus put up pictures (also on Instagram @thebavarianenglishman) and stories of the places I visit and let you know what I think and whether you should (or shouldn’t – hopefully there aren’t many of these) go there too. Kind of a reckie for you, if you like.

Here’s how it (finally) happened: Yesterday, I climbed up the many, many steps to the Burg Trausnitz on top of the city of Landshut with my parents and enjoyed a good, cold Radler (yes, that’s German for shandy, but it is more acceptable to drink here than in England – honest!) overlooking the city. Whilst up there, I said to my parents that this blog idea I’d had for a while now really needs to happen. So, sat overlooking Landshut (a thoroughly Bavarian, stunningly beautiful city north of Munich, which I would definitely recommend a trip to – more on this place later), I decided to go for it and set up the blog page there and then, buying the domain www.thebavarianenglishman.com in the process. So to keep up-to-date with my escapades throughout Bavaria, feel free to follow this blog and my Instagram account (@thebavarianenglishman). You never know, you may just be convinced to come on over and sample Bavarian life for yourself. 😉

As regards me, I’m an Englishman, who has been living in this great state of Bavaria for going on five years (one year in Passau for Erasmus in 2008-9 and now since 2012 in Munich) – time flies when you’re having fun. Funnily-enough, five years ago to the day (19 March 2011), I actually was an “Englishman in New York” – more fitting with the song of course – but now I’m in a much cooler place. My wife, Ramona, is the most beautiful and amazing Bavarian woman there is and we married last summer in a truly wonderful Bavarian wedding near Munich. (OK – just because you asked – I’ve put in a couple of pics of this special day below.) There is of course a lot more for me to tell you about us, but I won’t bore you now; I’ll no doubt tell the odd anecdote here and there along the way. Now, let the fun begin!
